Bruce Springsteen was rescued by passing bikers after his motorcycle broke down in New Jersey last month. And now, as Page Six reports, Billy Joel is saying it’s all his fault.

You see, Joel owns a custom bike shop on Long Island, and he built a motorcycle for Springsteen, as he explained during his concert at Madison Square Garden on Monday. “So he takes the bike out on Veteran’s Day and it breaks down. It’s all over national news: ‘Bruce’s Bike Breaks Down,” Joel told the audience. “So I’m reading this and thinking, ‘Oh shit, I hope it wasn’t the bike I built for him.’ I called him, ‘Bruce, what bike was the bike that broke down?’ ‘It was the one you made for me.’ ‘Oh. Sorry about that.’ ‘Oh no, it’s cool, dude.'”

By way of apology, Joel covered “Born To Run” before concluding that “No good deed goes unpunished.” Watch below.

Joel and Springsteen previously performed “Born To Run” together at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25th anniversary concert in 2009.
