Heavenly Beach Boys vocal harmonies, spaceship-blasting-off Rick Wakeman synths, searing Brian May guitars: Once & Future Band have it all. The Oakland quartet are signed to Castle Face, the record label run by John Dwyer of fellow ’70s revivalists Thee Oh Sees. But their vision of the ’70s is more prog-pop majesty than psychedelic riffage, and “How Does It Make You Feel?,” the lead single off of their upcoming self-titled debut album, is a shining example of the form. It’s a lushly orchestrated six-minute odyssey with shades of ELO in its sheer melody-bomb hookiness, and you can discover how it makes you feel below.
