The 101 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2017

As 2016 comes to a close it’s hard not to wonder what’s in store, to imagine our collective future: with anxiety, with trepidation, with dread. But there are some events on the horizon to which we can look with optimism, with hope, with excitement. And here at Stereogum, those events frequently take the form of albums — some of which we have been promised, some of which seem inevitable, some that may exist only as rumors, and some that have in fact been gestating for a long time now.

Hence, we present our list of the 101 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2017. The albums cataloged below have either been announced or we have good reason to reason to believe they will be. We kept wishcasting to a minimum (that’s why, for example, the Wrens are on here but not, y’know, the Smiths) but, there are a few educated guesses. As always several releases we included on the previous list — e.g., Chromatics, Haim, Beck, Japandroids — are back again.

As for the rankings… Well, we have advances of many of these albums: some are better or worse than we expected and that has helped us determine how “anticipated” we think they should be. Some we are just excited about even though we haven’t heard ‘em yet. Is there an album you’re anticipating that’s not listed? Let us know in the comments. Hopefully it won’t be a Tidal exclusive.
