Brokeback – “Cairo Levee”

Brokeback – “Cairo Levee”

“Cairo Levee” is the first single off Brokeback’s latest LP Illinois River Valley Blues, which follows the band’s 2013 effort Brokeback And The Black Rock. Douglas McCombs, the band’s founder and lead songwriter, is once again joined by James Elkington (Tweedy, Steve Gunn) and Pete Croke, as well as the newest member of the quartet drummer Areif Sless-Kitain. Together the four lock into an expansive groove, gradually but consistently pushing “Cairo Levee” to new heights from one minute to the next. The instrumental track delves into psych-folk territory reminiscent of Woods’ last album, incorporating African drums and contrasting guitar tones to great affect. Check it out below.
