Cyndi Lauper Critiques Madonna’s Women’s March Speech

This past weekend Madonna delivered a rousing speech at the Women’s March On Washington, one in which she told Donald Trump to “suck a dick,” dropped several F-bombs on live TV, and admitted the following: “Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.” A number of critics have come forth since, such as a Texas radio station that banned her songs from rotation as a “matter of patriotism.”

Now Cyndi Lauper, noted ’80s pop sensation and once-but-brief Madonna rival, has expressed her own critique of the speech in an interview with Andy Cohen, saying, “I don’t think that it served our purpose because anger is not better than clarity and humanity, that is what opens people’s minds.” Lauper went on to praise Scarlett Johansen’s speech at the same event, noting that she “shared her story; it was clear, it was eloquent.” Immediately after making her point, Lauper proceeded to take a shot off a ski with Cohen and Rod Stewart, the latter of whom said, “Cyndi you can’t do this, it’s men stuff.” Watch the full clip below.
