Future – “Mask Off” Video

Future’s woozy, flute-laden drug anthem “Mask Off” never got any sort of official single release; up until now, it’s always been just an album track on Future’s excellent self-titled LP. But thanks to various memes and its own greatness, “Mask Off” took off, found a life of its own, and became a megahit; it’s currently resting at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, Future’s biggest-ever hit by some distance. And now that it has a fancy, big-budget new video, maybe it’ll do even better. Maybe a song about mollys and percocets will make it to #1.

The new video, from director Colin Tilley, stars famous pretty lady Amber Rose, who chews on Future’s dreads and blows smoke into his mouth as the two of them ride through apocalyptic, fiery, riot-torn streets. We also see Future rapping on rooftops and in the middle of masked rioters. It’s a dark, heady vision, and it feels weirdly appropriate coming out on a day when many of us are extremely fucking pissed about the impending loss of our health insurance. (I know that’s a stretch, but it was cathartic for me, at least.) Check it out below.

Future’s self-titled album is out now on Epic/A1/Freebandz.
