Maneater – “Noise”

Maneater – “Noise”

Maneater are a new Vancouver trio that counts a member of Thee AHs among its ranks, and next month they’ll release their self-titled debut. “Noise” is the first song they’re sharing from the album, and it’s an impressive and chunky piece of indie-rock. Chugging guitars and warm harmonies serve as the pastel backdrop for a familiar story about the vagaries of distance and miscommunication: “I can’t hear you when you’re so far away/ I can’t feel you when you’re so far away/ Though I want to, I can’t understand you/ And I need you and I thought you need me to.” As the song builds to a head and the intermingling vocals ask, “Why can’t you say what I need you to say?,” you can sense the frustration at the heart of that question, and “Noise” makes it feel like you may never be able to put the pieces back together again. Listen to it below.
