Future Cancels Charlottesville Concert Out Of Respect For Terrorism Victims

On Saturday night, Future and Lil Yachty were set to perform at Charlottesville’s John Paul Jones Arena, a welcome-week concert for the students who are arriving at the University Of Virginia. But then, this past weekend, neo-Nazis and white supremacists marched on Charlottesville, a violent and chaotic brawl of a demonstration that ended when one young fascist drove his car into a crowd of counter-demonstrators, killing one and injuring many. The town is still recovering, and now Future has cancelled the show, tweeting that “out of respect for tragic events” the show just didn’t feel right.

As someone who lives in Charlottesville, I was looking forward to the cathartic release that Future’s show might’ve brought. But his decision makes sense, and now the UVA students are mounting a social-media campaign to bring Chance The Rapper to Charlottesville instead. Fingers crossed.
