Early next year, Dr. Demento, the longtime king of novelty-song radio, will release a new collection called Covered In Punk, a two-hour quasi-compilation that includes big stars doing punk covers of novelty songs and novelty covers of punk songs. The set features people like “Weird Al” Yankovic, Joan Jett And The Blackhearts, the Misfits, the B-52’s frontman Fred Schneider, Colleen Green, Shonen Knife, the Vandals, Nobunny, the Meatmen, Quintron & Miss Pussycat, James Kolchaka Superstar, and the late TV Batman Adam West. It also features the Best Show character Philly Boy Roy covering the Dead Milkmen’s “Punk Rock Girl.” And the one song that we get to hear right now is the 86-year-old TV legend William Shatner taking on the Cramps’ 1980 psychobilly classic “Garbageman.” Shatner has a lot of fun on the song and gives it some of his trademark inexplicable line readings. Check it out below.

Dr. Demento Covered In Punk is out 1/12, and you can pre-order it here.
