Earlier this year, Chvrches released Love Is Dead, their third album. The new LP, recorded with American super-producer Greg Kurstin, seemed like the Scottish synthpop trio’s bid for crossover stardom, outside the indie universe. Plenty of us were lukewarm on the album itself, at least when comparing it to the group’s excellent first two albums. But the whole push to expand seems to be going well. After all, Chvrches were on daytime TV.
Today, Chvrches were the musical guests on Ellen. On the show, they performed “Miracle,” one of the album’s catchier songs. This won’t turn them into overnight superstars or anything, but it’s a sign that they’re on their way. And anyway, they did everything they could with their performance.
Visually, everything about them was striking. They played on a bright, lit-up stage, full of pink and purple smoke. And frontwoman Lauren Mayberry wore a dress covered in reflective surfaces, so that she was always catching glimmers of light from every angle. It really popped off the screen. Watch it below.
Love Is Dead is out now on Glassnote.
