Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments

I’m on vacation, which means I spent slightly less time than usual online this week. Still, I made time to watch the best and worst music videos of the week.

Our highest and lowest rated comments are below. You can’t spell Shut Up, Dude without us.

It’s good that they have their principles. Tyga and Brown are definitely no-bueno dudes. But is anyone else even remotely “confused” and/or “disappointed” by Marshmello choosing to work with them? Does anything about “Mello” or any of these EDM guys suggest they have the integrity to not affiliate with people like this?

Further proof that CHVRCHES are guilty of Genre Appropriation. You can’t dip your toes in the sacred waters of Lake MegaPop and think you aren’t gonna end up getting a few leeches on your feet.

Somebody should let those Mitski fans know that just because you very vocally support a woman of color doesn’t mean you can’t still be a poisonous, intolerable shithead. (No surprise that she was cool about it, though.)

I was at the performance. I think all of the articles picking this performance apart are saying way too much and putting every aspect of the performance under a microscope to a degree that isn’t warranted. Were the merch prices ridiculous? Of course they were, it’s a Kanye show. Are there annoying die hard fans who will go crazy over anything Kanye does? Of course. Kanye apologists will be around for as long (or longer) Kanye uses his voice to say dumb shit.

But the performance itself was a really dynamic and enjoyable experience, and I say that as someone who has attended the festival for over ten years. A circular, man-made built hill/stage allowed for performers to run around. The way that the singers and dancers used the space was innovative. The band was super tight and played an incredible collection of songs and translated them across genres I wouldn’t have thought were possible. Kanye was only on the mic for like two-three tracks. He didn’t even speak or say anything outside of his low-stakes performances.

They played for two and a half hours and gave audiences something that has never been done at Coachella, and honestly it was a welcome change in the typical approach to festival performances. Criticizing the performance is an easy layup, but most articles I’ve read on the performance make it out as a high-stakes rehabilitation exercise when in reality it was just a pleasant way to kick off the final day of the festival. I don’t even think of it as a Kanye show. He wasn’t the center of the performance, the music was.

The stars aligned and one of my favorite songs got reviewed on my birthday. And Tom gave it a 10. What a great present.

Hehe. That was a very good movie. My point, was kind of, if she was talented she wouldn’t be an actor, she’d be a director, or editor, etc.
Meeks Cutoff was also very good.

But yes. Its all just opinions!

Don’t agree that she’s extraordinarily talented. Not even sure what basis you can make that claim, but Phil is obviously the shit. If I had to guess it took him about 6 months of permanently living with her to realize that actors are the a absolute worst.

Also you can definitely forgo press and parties. When is the last time you even saw a picture of Alexander Payne or Thelma Schoonmaker, or Robert Richardson. The list is endless. You don’t have to be famous to make films bro.

Always struck me as a guy more interesting in theory than execution. Madvilliany is cool and the Special Herbs records are great, but other than that… *shrug emoji*
