On Saturday night, Sufjan Stevens returned to the site of his BQE suite — the Brooklyn Academy of Music — for the latest installment in the BAM Takeover series. Suf was listed only as event curator, selecting rising composer Nico Muhly and St. Vincent among others to regale an audience comprised of, as some attendees told me, “drunken hipsters.” Sounds about right. My friend Kathryn twittered that Sufjan did make an appearance after all, joining Annie Clark (who called Stevens “Sufjams”) on a rendition of Phil Collins’s “In The Air Tonight.” Cue the two day YouTube searching frenzy. All we’ve come up with is a 30 second clip, which is too short but still worth a listen because Sufjan + Phil Collins is sorta right in our wheelhouse.
Apparently Annie’s new set up includes two drum sets, which Chryde told me resulted in a pretty powerful tom-drum intro and the night’s best moment. There was a proper camera crew in the house, so we should have some longer vid soon.
