“John Roderick writes songs that make you feel like you?ve been talking to someone really interesting in an airport for the last hour and, although you know you?ll never see them again, you just told them your whole life story and a part of you will love them forever.”
That’s Barsuk’s way of saying John Roderick writes great songs.
Long Winters’ Putting The Days To Bed (out 7/25) won’t disappoint anyone who loved their last two LPs (I’m listening to Worst You Can Do now and wondering why I don’t listen to it more). The band’s had a dozen members of the years; the current incarnation finds John power popping with Eric Corson on bass and Nabil Ayers on drums.
On this tune they’ve gone retro — all the way back to the NY rock renaissance of 2001.
The Long Winters – “Fire Island, AK” (MP3 Link Expired)
I love the song, but it’s not really representative of PTDTB, which is a bit twangier than I expected (in a good way). You should really buy it and listen to the whole thing. Stereogum gives it an 8.4815162342.
