Darwin Deez – “Radar Detector” Video

From ace director Ace Norton comes this new video for New York’s Darwin Deez. Darwin Deez refers to the band, and to their insane-looking singer/songwriter, who also plays guitar for Creaky Boards (the band that may/probably weren’t ripped off by Coldplay). Despite appearances — and trust, it takes about 10 minutes to fully absorb appearances here — Darwin Deez makes quirky indie pop that breeds optimism. And with “Radar Detector,” the lyrics are equally sweet and hopeful, sounding like the little details you hold on to early in a relationship: “You and I go shopping and find exactly what we’re looking for / You and I go shopping and fall asleep inside the mattress store.” Darwin Deez recently finished a tour with Bishop Allen last last year. According to what I’ve read, it’s not uncommon for the band to do synchronized dances instead of stage banter between songs, which sounds awful in theory, but looks entertaining in practice.

Norton, who’s also done clips for Simian Mobile Disco, She & Him, and Patrick Wolf, turned in a video that equals the bright weirdness of the band, with lots of eye-popping color and bizarre adventures.

Darwin Deez’ self-titled album is out in April on Lucky Number.
