“Icarus,” our first taste of White Hinterland’s Kairos, found Casey Dienel dropping the brushed-drum jazz and acoustic cabaret-folk feel of Phylactery Factory and pushing things into a denser electro realm. As I mentioned at the time, her noisier Luniculaire EP and cover of Arthur Russell’s “Lucky Cloud” offered other angles into this newer aesthetic. You’ll find another in the rainy, romantic Kairos track “Amsterdam.” Its accompanying Michaela Copikova-concocted video takes us to a cave below the Netherlands, where we find an inky she-wolf living alone with icicles and diamonds and raindrops until she decides to harness that moisture and take up gardening.
Kairos is out 3/9 via Dead Oceans. It’s also where you’ll find “No Logic.”
