Austin’s Soft Healer list “essential oils, moonlight, and burnt sage” as influences. The scribbled-upon promo pic continues that vibe. As does their mixing of electronic beats and sultry female vocals. In a way it’s reminiscent of fellow incense burners White Magic, but you’d more likely find Soft Healer performing in that bar in the Crying Of Lot 49 with the “strict electronic music policy.” Then again, it’s more emotional and organic than that. Still, the saxophone on their “Movie Light” and the Kraut-y propulsion throughout the songs I’ve heard keep me coming back to some smoky wood-paneled ’70s bar, Stockhausen lurking in the background. The band has a 7″ and LP forthcoming on Captured Tracks. You’ll find “Gentle One” on the 7″.
