Yesterday was Record Store Day, and 1,000 lucky blokes picked up this 7″, the first new Blur song in (appropriately enough) seven years. It was recorded in London weeks ago. Their last single was Think Tank’s “Battery In Your Leg.”
As we mentioned last week, Damon Albarn told The Sun, ”We want independent record stores to continue — they’re an important part of our musical culture.” True. None of the exclusive vinyl made its way to the states, which means we have to enjoy it via teh Internets, much like the Britpop heroes’ 2009 reunion tour. The band knows this, though, which is why they’ve made MP3 and WAV available for the price of an e-mail address at http://www.blur.co.uk/. Or stream it below (with lyrics)…
Chill and Kinksy like the best of 13, although now Damon’s slice of modern life comes from the perspective of fatherhood.
“Porridge done, I take my kid to school, past the pound shop, Woolworth’s … On my bike, down the Ladbroke Road to the forthcoming dramas of studio and loveable sweet music.”
Amrit and I will see Gorillaz close out Coachella 2010 late tonight. If AT&T get their shit together, you can follow our tweets at @stereogum.
