Twenty-three-year-old Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds is not for the emotionally / romantically fragile, or maybe he is, depending on whether you like to indulge your sorrows or forget them. As on 2009’s Found Songs, Arnalds’s …and they have escaped the weight of darkness is minimal and melancholy, mostly piano and strings. “Tunglið” builds to a thunderous climax three-quarters of the way through, before breaking back into solo piano, while “Þú ert sólin” dwells in one lonely space. The titles translate to “The Moon” and “You Are The Sun.” They make a nice pair.
