Anni Rossi – “Crushing Limbs”

Chicagoan Anni Rossi recorded her debut LP Rockwell in a single day. A couple things ran in favor of the abbreviated schedule: Rossi’s pared-down instrumentation (viola, cello, drums) lets her lyrics and quirky voice come through and Steve Albini engineered the album. “Crushing Limbs” shows off both, with its visual words (“Squeeze the guts out / Let it rip”) and clean-edged instruments. Rossi plays the Matt Groening-curated ATP next month in Minehead, England.
