Legendary producer/emcee Pete Rock adds something new to the heavily textured “Here To Fall,” the first track on Yo La Tengo’s Popular Songs. Basically, it sounds more like an actual popular song. More specifically, Rock rewires the original’s electronics and strings to make room for chilled-out drum machines, a line about YLT being “the man, son,” a Tupac shout out, etc. Rock’s maneuvering may also help you realize the album version already sorta possessed a trippy hip-hop pulse.
You’ll find Pete Rock’s take on iTunes today and on the Here To Fall Remixes EP 6/8 as a 12″ or CD EP via Matador. The EP also includes remixes by De La Soul’s Maseo and RJD2. Pre-order it at Matador.
