Eight Little Boxes

Eight Little Boxes

We stopped watching Weeds after a few episodes this season. It just got too silly. But, Showtime’s high comedy does deliver a cool, new version of Malvina Reynolds’s theme every week. The season kicked off with Elvis Costello’s funky, acoustic take. Since then, some of our favorite artists have taken liberties with the folk tune’s lyrics and arrangement. Listen to versions by Regina Spektor, Tim DeLaughter, Submarines and others here. For tonight’s season finale, Tom Maxwell and Ken Mosher of Squirrel Nut Zippers give the song a go. Showtime’s site doesn’t have Death Cab or Jenny Lewis’s versions — which is too bad ’cause those were our favorites — but maybe when the season 2 DVD comes out, we’ll compile a “Little” subversive megamix for y’all.
