It’s no secret Chicago post-rock guys like to play with themselves under various monikers as different collectives and ensembles. Chicago Odense Ensemble expands the scope a bit. The group features Rob Mazurek (Exploding Star Orchestra, Chicago Underground Collective) with members of Tortoise, Isotope 217, other Chicago etc.’s and two non-area dudes (Jonas Munk and Jakob Skott) from Danish psychedelic crew Causa Sui. Results? The smooth, occasionally noisy and bubbling electro-jazz amble “Soup.” It’s part of a self-titled collection out soon via subscription. Take a listen.
Chicago Odense Ensemble will be out via Adluna. There are 500 copies of the vinyl and 500 copies of the CD. It’s “Internet mail-order only” so “don’t expect to see any copies in stores.” Pre-order at chicagoodenseensemble.com. (Where you can go the extra distance and order one of three double vinyl test pressings.)
