I can’t help but look at The Year That Was for the artists that pop up with fresh content in this last few weeks of the blog year. For N.E.R.D. and its most visible face, Pharrell, it was a collaborative one — working Lindsay Lohan into the clip for coke-in-da-club bumper “Everyone Nose,” mingling with Santi and Casablancas on the powered-by-Converse spot “My Drive Thru,” casting some live mashup magic with M.I.A. and Franz Ferdinand at Diesel’s XXX blowout, etc. The video for this soul downer from N.E.R.D.’s Seeing Sounds puts the cap on ’08 with a seasonally appropriate theme: seizing on the cut’s “Sooner or later, it all comes crashing down” refrain to remind you what everyone nose (the global economy is in the shitter) by having Williams sweep up your life savings off the floor of the NYSE. Guess the artists can’t help but look back at The Year That Was, either. Fair enough, the artists. Fair enough.
Happy Holidays from N.E.R.D. Seeing Sounds is out via Virgin.
