Big week for Kathyrn Calder. She was on Letterman performing with the New Pornographers on Wednesday night, and her debut solo album, Are You My Mother? was released in digital form last night. “Arrow” makes me think of Sufjan Stevens, when he keeps things simple, or at least tries to for the first five minutes of his songs. Calder is likewise able to build something great out of just a couple of repeated piano chords and layered vocals. The first single from her album, “Slip Away,” also kept things understated and warm, but I think I prefer “Arrow”‘s soothing, meditative feel. Maybe you will too:
