Kanye West – “Power” Video Preview

If you’ve heard director Marco Brambilla talk about his upcoming video for Kanye West’s “Power,” you might have heard him refer to it as a piece, and himself as an artist (see West’s “It’s not a video, it’s a painting!” tweet as well). Lots of videos are genuine pieces of art, of course, but this short documentary on Brambilla and his digital collage technique (used in a piece called “Civilization,” the one West was inspired by), shows why the “Power” video, debuting tomorrow night at 11pm on MTV, is probably going to be special.

It’s the theme that Brambilla is using for “Power” — a kingdom at the end of its age — that seems to be inspiring West’s entire life right now, since he’s, over the last few days, lamented the lack of decent rugs with decent cherubs on them, coveted a truly tacky Versace sofa, and contemplated buying a crown. It’s all stuff from civilizations that have long been destroyed, sometimes by their own people/decadence/hubris, but he’s probably saving that for another tweet.

His untitled album is out 9/14 via Roc-A-Fella Records.
