After all those Always The Bridesmaid singles collections, the more distorted, heavier, and, yes, slightly Billy Joe Armstrong-esque “The Rake’s Song” suggested the Decemberists’ new full-length The Hazards Of Live might be going in a ballsier direction. Relatively speaking here. This is the Decemberists we’re talking about. As far as the tastefully minimal woody album art, we’re told it was designed by Colin’s (living) wife, so at least we can assume the aforementioned dead spouse, pest-killing track isn’t autobiographical. Probably.
