We’re just hours from tonight’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony which none of you will be watching on VH1 Classic, but we’ll join EW.com in celebrating the big night for R.E.M. by looking back at the chameleonic style of Michael Stipe. Check the 13-picture retrospective here (with commentary from the man himself), but here are a couple of outliers.
While you’re flipping through the pics to tell us your favorite Stipe fashion, head to R.E.M.Tube and listen to the band’s cover of Lennon’s “#9 Dream,” recorded for the forthcoming, Amnesty International-benefitting album Instant Karma – The Campaign to Save Darfur. It’s the band’s first studio recording with Bill Berry since ’97! He’ll be joining ‘em onstage tonight after Eddie Vedder’s induction speech, which actually is a great reason to tune in. And lastly, R.E.M.’s hitting the studio with Jacknife Lee, producer of U2’s How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, Bloc Party’s A Weekend In The City, and Snow Patrol’s Final Straw. Should be interesting.
So which Stipe are you? Blue Man raccoon?
