Boduf Songs – “I Am Going Away And I Am Never Coming Back” Video (Stereogum Premeire)

“I Am Going Away And I Am Never Coming Back” is the final track from Boduf Songs’ excellently bleak fourth album This Alone Above All Else In Spite Of Everything. It’s a song about leaving, finding exits, a lack of language, etc., and therefore a great way to finish-off a downcast collection, one that opens with the quietly growling violence of “Decapitation Blues“‘s “My hammer feels the urge / to nail you to the ground / To smash one through your cheek.” Mat Sweet, the downcast UK-to-Toledo folkie behind the project, shot a video for the “I Am Going Away” that follows the path (and emptied landscape) of someone doing just that. (And our protagonist’s trailed by a beautifully ominous sunset.)

This Alone Above All Else In Spite Of Everything is out 9/6 via Kranky. I hope he takes Marissa Nadler’s lead and collaborates with a black metal musician one of these days.
