Mice Parade’s forthcoming, self-titled record is a stunner, and another on our already-stuffed you-must-have list. (Never too early for a list!) The Adam Pearce-led folk/post-rock project builds on 2005’s excellent Bem-Vinda Vontade with this May release, particularly with the atmospheric lilt of stand-out “Tales Of Les Negras,” featuring the honey-coated vocals of Lætitia Sadier (Stereolab) and a hard-smacking keyboard-drum groove.
Our favorite, though, is “Double Dolphin On The Nickel,” another track with the perfect cameo, Adam’s understated vox joining the track only after múm’s Kristin Anna Valtysdottir (aka Kría Brekkan) has spun two-and-a-half minutes of her child-like, icy inflections. From there, like the rest of the record, it’s a post-rock arrangement master class. Taught by a dude who naps on tables.
Mice Parade is out 5/8 on FatCat.
