Two hip-hop beefs to tell you about: First, and best: According to Billboard, Hammer posted a diss song/video in response to one of Jay-Z’s lines in the recent G.O.O.D. Friday track, “So Appalled.” We mentioned the offending line (“I lost 30 MIL so I spent another 30 / because unlike Hammer 30 Mil can’t hurt me”), and Hammer’s initial response, but this one is far more meaningful(?). The video features an overweight Jay-Z lookalike running from someone in a devil mask as Hammer raps about the deal Jay’s made with satan. At the end Hammer stops the devil and baptizes Jay-Z in a lake. Watch:
Hilarious. Maybe someone should give Hammer a copy of Jesus And Jigga?
Less hilarious is Nicki Minaj’s scathing response to a Lil Kim’s interview back in June. Kim told an interviewer that Minaj hasn’t “paid homage” to her, when parts of her look are clearly inspired by Lil Kim. If she was expecting an apology, then this new Minaj track, “Roman’s Revenge,” isn’t it. Her verse, as transcribed by Billboard: “Is this the thanks that I get for putting you bitches on? Is it my fault that all you bitches gone?/ Shoulda sent a thank-you note, you lil’ ho, now Imma wrap your coffin in a bow/’Nicki she just mad ’cause you took the spot,’ word, that bitch mad cause I took the spot? Well, bitch if you ain’t sh*tting then get off the pot/Got some n*ggas out in Brooklyn that’ll off your top.” Listen:
It should be said that Lil Kim’s interview was mostly kind to Minaj, and she said that their similarities are things that all super feminine female rappers would latch on to (referring to yourself as a queen or as a Barbie, etc.). So this may be in response to many of the other, much harsher diss tracks that have come Minaj’s way. Also should be said that this is the debut of Minaj’s alter ego Roman Zolanski. I would have preferred Werner Zerhog, or Zim Zenders.
