Jessica Lea Mayfield – “Our Hearts Are Wrong”

Ohio singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield is back, following the often desolate, heart-heavy country folk and atmospheric guitar swells/strums of her debut With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt. Again, she has the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach in her corner (he takes a production credit) though now she has an enhanced label presence: JLM’s Tell Me is out 2/8 via Nonesuch. She is still fixated on hearts — the LP’s lead listen’s titled “Our Hearts Are Wrong,” another “Somewhere In Your Heart.” About this first MP3: It’s subtle, somewhat more briskly paced and packing less dusky sparkle than the more languid, moody moments of With Blasphemy. It’s drier in production and affect overall, though the key now, as it was then, is Mayfield’s vocal, which is still very much a worthy focal point. Check:
