While We Were Out

… and then it was 2011. Hopefully your New Year’s celebration involved doing something more celebratory than being berated by a solo Ariel Pink from a makeshift stage in a Bushwick warehouse, and hopefully you are back on the internet with a lot of hard drive space and some well rested ears: There was a lot of good music last year, but there’s even more to look forward to. Before we dive in full force, let’s collectively shake off the brain rust with this little roundup of the noteworthy downloads that came down the tubes during the internet’s post-holiday/pre-NYE holiday malaise, including links to so many mixtapes, a free Radiohead DVD, an album made by primatez on an iPad, and the various live sessions blog-bands like to offer up to stay in your hearts and minds over winter break (Always Be Buzzing). Pour a coffee, grab some headphones, tell your boss “you’re working on it” and let’s start the year in workplace procrastination on the good foot. Good habits for a good year ahead. Welcome to it.

Radiohead For Haiti DVD Download

A year ago Radiohead played an intimate charity gig to help fund Haitian relief efforts, now that show can be seen via multi-cam DVD release. In fact the video is being offered as a free download by fans; the band has given the internet its blessing, and asks only that, in exchange for trading this torrent, you donate to Oxfam. You can watch it here, too:

Dave Grohl Reunites With Krist/Butch On Foos LP7

After running into Vig at a party, Dave Grohl offered the Nevermind producer the job of producing the next Foo Fighters record in an effort to make the band heavier than ever and to “come to terms” with their seminal collab twenty years ago. The album doesn’t have a title yet, but the song that features Krist Novoselic on bass and accordion does, so memorize the name “I Should Have Known” for your future rock trivia nights. More info via Rolling Stone and, well, Rolling Stone.

Justin Timberlake’s New Song Leaks, Forgettably

It’s called “Take You Down,” apparently produced by the Neptunes, and apparently not a sign that a new album is on the way. (He’s not ready to record a full length/shopping around his Social Network buzz for more Hollywoody type ventures.) It also might be a demo? Who knows. Stream it below.

Gorillaz – The Fall

As promised, here’s the iPad album Damon made while on tour last year. You can learn more about the various applications used in its making at thefall.gorillaz.com.
