Last we checked in with Celebration was on the rainy, TV On The Radio McCarren Pool Sunday, when Katrina came out, matching Tunde hop for reverse-punching-bag-windmill and belting on “Wolf Like Me.” Time’s coming for the Baltimore trio to take the stage on their own again, though, with sophomore LP The Modern Tribe (so named, says Ford, because they’re “able to do what we love with the people that we love,” people like Dave Sitek, returning on production). The outstanding first single from the record, “Evergreen,” is a whirling, organ-laced dreamer, and the prismatic clip perfectly hits the surreally sunny vibe: this isn’t rock, it’s crystal.
To conduct your own portable Celebration…
The Modern Tribe is out 10/9 on 4AD.
UPDATE: More to celebrate — check the Simian Mobile Disco remix of the Tribe track “Hands Off My Gold.”
