The reunited Dinosaur Jr’s picked up where various Dinosaur lineups let off, making solid songs that sound like Dinosaur. Only this time it’s the original guys doing it, and there seems to be a bit more passion than some of those later-period J-only outings. No, the mid-tempo “I Want You To Know” doesn’t hit as hard as the band’s vintage best, but it’s not so slouchy either: Think of the mellow, still guitar-raring sound of “Out There,” albeit with Barlow on bass. It comes from Farm, J, Lou, and Murph’s fifth album together. Yes, the one with the great artwork, stoners.
Farm is out 6/23 via Jagjaguwar. In the meantime, if you want some more, here’s “I Don’t Wanna Go There” live. You can buy it on a 7″ if you catch the guys during their current tour. It’s backed with “Tarpit.” Both songs were recorded during the band’s Pitchfork.tv feature.
