Cult Of Youth bassist Micki Pellerano directed this sexy, bloody black and white video for his Brooklyn BTW’s dark howler, “The Pole-Star.” If the feel’s familiar, it’s maybe because he also did that spit and s&m-heavy clip for the K-Holes’ “Short Zippers.” The ritualistic torture’s beautifully shot: Jacqueline Castel, who we know courtesy of her clips for Zola Jesus, Blanks Dogs, and others — handled the cinematography. It’s probably NSFW, but c’mon.
Cult Of Youth is out via Sacred Bones. They head out on a US tour with label mates Zola Jesus and Naked On The Vague tomorrow. They’ll also be playing another excellent show…
Stereogum’s proud to announce… Cult Of Youth will be joining Iceage for the amazing Denmark dark-punk quartet’s US live debut. Right, their first performance in the States. We teamed with SXSW collaborators Sacred Bones to make it happen. It takes place 6/17 in Brooklyn at Public Assembly as part of the L Magazine’s 3rd Annual Northside Festival. As mentioned in the past, the Iceage dudes are young: In that spirit, the show’s 17+.
We’ve given you other Iceage background info previously, but be reminded that their debut full-length New Brigade is one of 2011’s best (and that they remain one of the year’s bands to watch). Before arriving, they have plans to tour with Fucked Up in the UK in May. They’ll be returning to the States later this summer, after the Northside show. We wanted to make their debut special, so Stereogum and Sacred Bones paired them with another of those 18 Dark Bands To Watch, excellent Richmond, VA death-punks Lost Tribe, Far Rockaway noisemakers Yellow Tears, a DJ set by one-time BTW Cold Cave’s DJ Wes Eisold, the Men (who’re releasing their sophomore full length, Leave Home on 5/24), and other equally fitting bands to be announced. The details to date:
