Fred Falke Remixes Grizzly Bear

Just when you were thinking of being over “Two Weeks.” The Remixer Of The Year race I just made up seemed to be tipped in the Golden Filter’s favor just weeks ago, but after the Filter and Fred Falke’s showdown over Little Boots’s “New In Town,” and then his exclusive knockout reworkings for Annie and U2, and now THIS awesomeness, the odds have been reassessed. Gone are Chris Bear’s lockstep then shuffling beats and the “Hard Knock Life” bounce — gone is all native instrumentation, really — swapped for a straight-on bassline, four-on-the-floor beats, and blissy synths yanked from an afterhours club in Soho (the London one). The verses work but the hook is where it lifts off, Fred snatching Droste’s vocal and stretching it like gauze over the track’s syrupy underbelly.

This Fred Falke remix of “Two Weeks” will appear on the official single release, due out 5/18 via Warp.
