New Half Cousin – “The Absentee (Fujiya & Miyagi Remix)” & Video

So what do you call a band like Tunng, or Simple Kid, or what have you? Electro folk? Folktronica? UK outfit Half Cousin proffer something else on their MySpace genre list: Acousmatic. Fair and true, whatever those etymological roots conjure is something like what Half Cousin offer, although the infectious single “The Absentee” comes more with a sort of solo Syd Barrett vibe, swabbed over with digi drips and laptop shading. The video draws us into the band’s overall aesthetic more so, focusing on central Cousin Kevin Cormack awesomely strumming a guitar we don’t hear, along with his Half collaborators from the Earlies and King Creosote in a sweet little practice space.

The track’s getting a proper single release which features reworkings from Zero 7, Justus Koehncke, and “Collarbone” kraut pop crew Fujiya & Miyagi. F&M cover is dope. Grab it.
