It’s surprising it took a British band this long to come up with a name that plays on “UK” as simply as “Yuck” — and also somewhat ironic since the band Yuck looks so far away (at the US circa the ’90s in particular) for inspiration. Their self-titled debut is either a delight or annoyance to fans still clutching Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth and Pavement records for its genre revival, and a must listen for people who like those bands and are looking for new hooks in that vein. This summer they’re putting out one more song, titled “Milkshake,” on a double a-side self-titled release (the other track is the LP cut “Shook Down”). It sounds a bit like college rock’s less fashionable offspring the Gin Blossoms, and in conjunction with “Coconut Bible,” puts Yuck in the lead for 2011’s most delicious song titles. Hear it:
