NME Thinks Klaxons Are Still MDMA-zing

For the #1 slot, at least, the New Music Express’s album list was easy to call; you don’t think they’d let the world start to think it was the Mercury Prize that got Klaxons in headlines, do you? No sir, this is the band that came complete with ecstatic slang and day-glo and a nifty new genre tag (and a penchant for rejecting all those things as NME journalistic sensationalism, as if such a thing existed). Oh and, right, they came complete with a pretty fine album, too. Also, remember UK law: Arctic Monkeys must be in the top 5. But it’s not all Brit hype by the numbers cookie cuttery; check the savvy #5 for Les Savy Fav.

We’d remind you that the Hold Steady’s LP came out this year across the Atlantic, but we do that every time and it doesn’t seem to matter. So … can you believe that Boys And Girls… is on this list? This may be the first we’re seeing of Patrick Wolf on a year-ender — quite a fall from grace after all that Magic Position commotion — and it’s definitely the first time we’ve seen the dance token flipped to Simian’s side of things. Don’t worry Justice, Gummy loves you (or at least, your magic tees).
