Robert Smith Covers John Martyn

British folk-rock singer/songwriter/acclaimed Echoplex-toting guitarist John Martyn passed away a couple years ago as the result of double pneumonia. A 30-song tribute called Johnny Boy Would Love This will be released this August to commemorate his legacy. Contributors include Beck, pal/collaborator Phil Collins, Devendra Banhart, Vetiver, and Beth Orton. There’s also this very pretty take on Martyn’s 1977 One World track “Small Hours” by Robert Smith. Smith had this to say: “I first heard ‘Small Hours’ on the John Peel Show late in 1977 and fell instantly in love with it… One World very quickly became my favorite John Martyn album … And these beautiful songs were, are and always will be an inspiration and an enchantment.” Take a listen while you read over the tracklist:
