Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy is a big Hall & Oates fan. Right, who isn’t? But the Decaydance spitter/singer’s putting his love into action, doing a full-on mash-up of their 2006 record As Cruel As School Children with 40+ Hall & Oates tracks. It’s been put together by DJ J.J. Brown, who’s also mashed Ludacris and Jackson 5 according to MTV. Not a huge suprise: Gym Class Heroes’ “Cupid’s Chokehold” famously sampled Supertramp, so the kid’s not shy about broadcasting his love for Lite FM. What’s more novel is that Daryl Hall is really into the whole thing. In fact, Travis did a set for Daryl’s webcast on Fri, which is archived here. (You can just make up a nonsense email name to get by registration.) They did a reggae-tinged cover of Animals’ “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “Everytime You Go Away,” which was a hit for Paul Young in 1985. And most intriguing, H&O’s “You Make My Dreams” mashed with Gym Class Heroes’ “The Queen and I.” Watch that one here.
Sounds good, actually. And Daryl looks more invested in the production than usual. Check out the extended, behind-the-scenes “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” after the jump.
Good times, but Oates’s mustache really is missed.
