Tegan & Sara Offer Geography Lessons, Solo Project + New Northern State – “Away Away (Dub Mix)”

Our favorite Canadian twins are currently on tour with Northern State — between the two crews, there’s much to report. For starters, Tegan has a forthcoming solo “electronic-based” project with AFI’s Hunter Burgan, who played bass on The Con. As far as we can tell from this quote, it seems to be in the very early stages. They’ve been touring for like the last ten years, so that’s understandable. Via Spinner:

“We don’t actually have a name, which is kind of funny … We wanted to call it Tegan vs. Hunter but we both have projects and bands, obviously, with our names already. So we were kind of like, ‘I don’t know what we’re going to call it.’ We’re slowly working on a record. I’m really inspired by it, but it’s hard to get it done in between tours.”

In other T&S news, the sisters have been doing a series of videos (“Backstage Bilingual”) on their current UK/European tour, where they talk to random audience members backstage about local slang, customs, etc. The first one was kind of a wash, but the three following installments yielded pretty amazing moments, including someone saying, “I’m so hungry I could eat the balls off a low-flying duck.” Yeah, things get really good once they head into Ireland…

Backstage Bilingual #3: Dublin, Ireland

Backstage Bilingual #4: Belfast, Ireland

“I got up the duff by Matthew.” Oh, Matthew, you wannabe Spice Boy, you … Such a minx! See the British installments here.

Tegan & Sara’s frequent touring mates are Northern State, who recently sent us a remix of “Away Away,” which was done by John Hill, who’s worked with Santogold and also is in Shitake Monkey with Chuck Brody, the guy who produced Northern State’s Can I Keep This Pen?. Here, get dubby wid it.

Northern State – “Away Away (Dub Remix)” (MP3)

They should use that remix to soundtrack the next backstage bilingual and move the discussion from cheap booze and “up the duff” to sweet bud, mon. Better hurry up — Northern State’s tour with Tegan & Sara ends in Amsterdam and then the ladies head out on their own. The post-T&S dates:
