The Germany-based English artist Planningtorock (née Janine Rostron) has been on a steady course of profile bumps over the past year, from co-composing the Knife’s 2010 opera Tomorrow, In A Year to catching James Murphy’s fancy and dropping in on a Shit Robot track before releasing her own full-length, W, on DFA. She’s directed and set W’s videos in former East Berlin, and whether it’s a matter of her work ethic or her belief in this peripheral promo asset, she’s done that again for the video to “Living It Out”‘s remix by Stereogum40 synth wonk Laurel Halo. Where Laurel’s been synthesizing her way through strains of warped Detroit techno and cosmic Chicago house, it’s the outré ambient gauze of her 2011 EP Logic Hour that’s at play here, muzzling “Living It Out”‘s propulsive string-disco into deeply narcotic and zonked submission. She should offer Lynch some Crazy Clown Time redos. Click to enter your own state of becalmed dread below.
“Living It Out” appears on Planningtorock’s 2011 LP W, out via DFA. Here’s the video for the original, also filmed in Berlin:
