Castanets, aka Ray Raposa and a shifting cast of collaborators, is about to release Texas Rose, The Thaw, And The Beasts via Asthmatic Kitty, but you won’t find his haunting cover of Hank Williams’ “Rambling Man” on it. The previously unreleased take on the classic debuted in this week’s Drop. It’s one of seven Williams’ covers Raposa recorded this past year, though he can’t imagine playing Hank in the upcoming film version of the country legend’s life: “I feel a bit more of a kinship with Bocephus.” Read Raposa’s thoughts on “Rambling Man” as well as the dare M. Gira made him in Amsterdam while you take a listen.
This week we also offered the chance to win a Where The Wild Things Are skateboard deck, iPod, and soundtrack CD. Stare into their yellow eyes without blinking.
One winner gets a GIRL-brand Where The Wild Things Are skateboard deck along with an iPod shuffle and a CD copy of the film’s soundtrack. You’ll get the “Carol” deck, which is on the top of this lineup:
The Where The Wild Things Are soundtrack is out 9/29 via DGC/Interscope. The movie itself is out 10/16. Your chance to win is out now: Enter here. You also still have a few days to win Win an Audio 2 DJ.
