New Massive Attack (Feat. Tunde Adebimpe) – “Pray For Rain”

The big non-news coming from TV On The Radio is that they are taking a break. For a year, which sounds like a pretty reasonable/standard downcycle between albums and extensive touring, but we are living in a TVOTR blog-world where everything the band does is TVOTR blog-worthy. Tunde did say it would allow them to work on other projects, which we’re already seeing with Kyp on Rain Machine and Sitek on probably producing your favorite Hollywood starlet’s debut album. It also leaves Adebimpe time to bump up his Videogum presence and do things like contribute vocals to Massive Attack tracks. The nearly seven-minute, brooding, suspended piano chordal and blippy “Pray For Rain” is Tunde’s guest spot on the trip-hop progenitors’ forthcoming, cameo-heavy Splitting The Atom EP (other slots go to Elbow’s Guy Garvey and Martina Topley-Bird, and the following full-length promises Damon Albarn among others). Have a listen:

I took that photo during Massive Attack’s 2006 ACL set, a festival which also featured TV On The Radio. Maybe that’s where they became besties. The Splitting The Atom EP is out 10/5 via Virgin, with a full-length expected in February.

01 “Splitting The Atom” (Feat. The 3D, Daddy G, and Horace Andy)
02 “Pray For Rain” (Feat. Tunde Adebimpe)
03 “Psyche (Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid Remix)” (Feat. Martina Topley Bird)
04 “Bulletproof Love (Christoff Berg Remix)” (Feat. Guy Garvey)

Those remixed songs reportedly will appear in their original versions on the 2010 album. We’ll keep you posted.
