Rain Machine/Sharon Van Etten @ The Bell House, Brooklyn 9/21/09

Kyp Malone releases his solo debut as Rain Machine today via ANTI-, so think of last night’s tour kickoff at Brooklyn’s Bell House as a hometown friends, fam, and neighbors album-release party. A party with a great opening act in Sharon Van Etten. This was the first time Kyp’s Rain Machine band played together onstage, and according to our photographer Kyle Dean Reinford the sound will sit well with those inconsolable over news of TV On The Radio’s hiatus. (Relax, it’s only a year.) That’s not surprising given “Give Blood” hitting like TVOTR thrown into a loose and scuzzed, mystical late-night basement jam; that Kyp kept a a live-wire intensity up for most of the album-spanning set is maybe more so. If you were there, you probably remember the photographer who took 500 flash photos, climbed the stage, and made everyone his enemy last night. Please note these photos are flash-free. Enjoy the spread of Rain Machine, Sharon, and early opener Candles Of Paradise, and here’s Kyp’s tour dates and a few tracks to get your sorted:
