New Young Rival – “4:15″

We don’t know too much about Hamilton, Ontario quartet Young Rival, but “4:15″‘s been sounding good on repeat listens, so we wanted to post it. We do know they recorded their forthcoming album with Emery Dobyns, a Grammy winner who’s also turned knobs for Antony, Battles, and Patti Smith. Also, they went on tour with the Sadies in Canada last fall and Born Ruffians this spring. Not bad, Young Rival. But whatever, the background’s not that important. Just take a listen to “4:15,” a smoothly dark, refined Zombies-esque pop with a great guitar sound. That’s what hooked us first.

Young Rival – “4:15″ (MP3)

Five minutes before 4:20. They’d intended to play at the Bowery with Tokyo Police Club last summer, but were stranded at the border with visa problems. Things went better at the border this time — the boys have a show tonight at the Annex, if you find yourself in the NYC area. Hear more here.
