Nas’s last single, “Nasty,” was the sort of breakneck virtuosic New York rap that Nas doesn’t do often enough. He’s usually good for just one of those per album, if that. So it’s with great pleasure that I report that Nas’s new single “The Don” is very much in the same vein: A piece of incisive NYC tough talk from arguably the best ever to do that. Late rap legend Heavy D co-produced the hard-edged, reggae-tinged beat, and seriously, everything about this song is awesome. Listen to the song, peppered with obligatory Funkmaster Flex drops, below.
Nobody’s announced a new Nas album yet, but, I mean, come on. This LP needs to happen.
