There’s an event at St. John’s College in Maryland where the college plays the Navy at croquet. You get to dress fancy and no animals are harmed. You guys should go.

It would make life actually manageable over here. Somehow, I don’t think the above method would make that happen.

I mean, will it be better than Scrooged. Because if it’s not better than Scrooged, why are we doing this. There should be a pansy who decides if we really make reboots of something. It’s make money.

Great example about why Michael Nelson is probably my favorite music writer of all time. He gets it. I’m going to find you that J Church T-Shirt Mike. Believe that. https://www.stereogum.com/1709766/mark-kozelek-i-love-you-but-youre-bringing-me-down/franchises/sounding-board/?_gl=1*1r6ux5j*_ga*YW1wLU9rWGxZWVpBb2E1TXliQkNQclNCQVdtUzBxTEdnTk1abXF6N0Y5U2t0UW5BNC01LUVRdkdReVdTMjZXdkRvaEk.

Jenny Lewis for some reason crashed at my friend’s house recently. I haven’t gotten the reason, but I know it’s true because my friend had no idea who she was. I have to ask him how that occurred.

Why anyone would downvote this is a total mystery. That album deserves a write up. As good as any record of its time.

Ca.n you believe I’ve never made bottom 10? You’d think Man of the Woods would’ve done it.

Dan, I’m gonna hold you responsible for listing every single album released during those ten years. Just make sure you have it in early enough so I can really think about my list. Real talk, you should be doing it right now and not reading my comment.

We’re letting money dictate cultural value. We’ve internalized the idea that there can be a such thing as priceless works of art, but apparently divorcing commerce and art/news/education is unthinkable in modern times. I’m not saying that there’s countless instances of this happening right now, but we’re not even considering it conceptually any more. Hell, t-shirts with bands like The Velvet Underground are selling for astronomical prices, meanwhile that band could never sustain themselves in our current climate.

Not happy about this Michael Nelson situation. I’m so tired of hearing about how it’s a hard time for media. It’s more a minor inconvenience for 10th generation rich kids handed off as a “tough decision”. The actual talent and the general public lose out so Warren Lawrence Fuckstick the 3rd can afford to keep the help on the cold weather yacht. And before you say that I am simplifying things, check out how people like the former owners of the Wall Street Journal are saying they now wish they had not sold the company. Talented people are being let go, and some family of useless do nothings at the top are whining about getting hundreds of millions of dollars.

It’s actually embarrassing over there. Mike needs to Sean McVay that operation.

I hope he heads over to The Ringer, or pitches the AV Club a complete overhaul of there barely breathing music department. But really the ideal scenario is a book. Can you imagine Mike having the freedom to really stretch out on whatever topic he feels like thinking about. Michael, you are one of my favorite writers. Please find a way to let us know where your work is headed next.

One last thought: The most amazing thing is that we’re here talking about the music and not one of the most incredible origin stories in the history of rock. The fact that they were good enough to make the religious cult stuff simply an interesting tidbit is a credit to how good they really were.

My thing is that so much of their music existed on the same emotional plane as the transition from late youth to adulthood, where you know something sad is coming so you better soak up the magic of idle time with friends while you can. I don’t know if it works anymore especially since Owens has really struggled in the last few years. It just captured a magic that, unless you’re living it, is hard to channel.

It’s what makes Low and Nick Cave and a few others absolutely extraordinary. To defend Reznor, I think his interests and sensibilities have changed. His composition has become more mature and subtle, and the reason that has more of a glaring effect is because of the persona that was attached to him with the beginning of his career. There’s all kinds of gold in his recent output. Maybe he’s not viscerally as powerful, but the nuance of his later work definitely suggests he’s just as engaged as he ever was. A brilliant guy.

I know you are just fucking around because there’s no way you could hear the above song and think the guy who wrote it isn’t very gifted. I know their image can be a little theatre kid in a bad day, but if Bowie wrote The Black Parade it would be considered a classic.

The craziest thing about Gang Starr was that Guru wasn’t even a very good lyricist but he was the best lyricist for Premier’s music, May we all one day find our creative soulmate, as I have found with Sandro.
