Yes, the band got a guarantee, but the band also pays for production, their crew, perhaps even the opening band depending on the deal. Maybe even covered the travel costs for the special guests (Arcade Fire, Reggie Watts, etc). Not to mention the show was filmed for the movie, which has plenty of costs associated with it. Not hard for them to blow through a ton of money with a show of this scale.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather hear a promoted song that is remotely close to my musical tastes than a regular commercial of zero relevance to me. Also, you are incredibly naive if you think all the Spotify curated playlists are purely the result of tastemakers with nothing but your enjoyment in mind and zero outside influence or shenanigans. Simple solution, PAY FOR SPOTIFY. Jesus christ 10 fucking dollars a month for instant access to a large majority of the history of recorded music.

1) one of my immediate questions, and my guess is if they aren't outright streamable, they technically are once you buy them and are in your "itunes in the cloud". kinda lame, but an overall good move towards unifying all this bullshit. 2) like most people, i did not pay attention to beats past the launch, but their family plan was tied into AT&T family plan, and dictated by who was on that. since i havent seen any mention of apple music having anything to do with phone services, perhaps its simply going to be as technically "family" as a general phone plan is? "AT&T customers, we have something very special for you: try Beats Music free for 90 days with your AT&T Family Plan then get Beats Music for your entire family — up to five people and ten devices — for $14.99/month. $50 in value for $14.99."
